OUR COMMUNITY SUPPORTERS

We are thankful to our community supporters in and around Southern California, Northern California, and on the National level.  These organizations have been so unconditionally inclusive, inviting us to their events, and participating with us at our own events and group meetings.  Through the kindness of their spirits, generosity with their time and volunteerism, resource sharing, assistance with promoting the growth of our SGV API PFLAG support group, they have been a part of increasing our visibility to Asian, Pacific-Islanders, and South Asian parents, families, allies, and API LGBTQ individuals.  Their continued support is greatly appreciated.  The sustainability of the SGV API PFLAG mission and vision is bolstered by our dedicated team of family volunteers and our community supporters.

The following are these organizations who continue to grace us with their collaboration:

Founded in 2005, API Equality-LA has been a tireless advocate in the Greater Los Angeles Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities for fair treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people and marriage equality for same-sex couples.

APIELA's coalition has brought together veteran and newer activists who represent the ethnic, linguistic, age, professional, and gender diversity in the Asian American community.  API Equality-LA has garnered tremendous broad-based support, including the endorsements of more than 50 organizations and numerous community leaders.  Every year, our dedicated volunteers have one-on-one conversations with thousands of Asian voters about marriage equality, participate in parades and protests, reach out to ethnic media, build bridges to faith communities, and organize educational events on a broad array of social justice issues of importance to API LGBT people.

SGV API PFLAG has participated yearly at Models of Pride Conferences held at the University of Southern California
campus in Los Angeles, CA.

Models of Pride (MOP) is a free one-day conference that focuses on the concerns and interests of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth up to age 24, and their allies. Words like camaraderie, safety and a strong sense of belonging have been used by hundreds of youth to describe this annual conference. The Models of Pride conference is filled with workshops, a resource fair, exciting entertainment, food, a dance, and lots of new friends. By breaking the conference into tracks, we’ve provided something for everyone! This year we have a YOUTH TRACK and a COLLEGE TRACK for students. We also have a PARENT TRACK where parents and guardians can access information and resources, and ask questions in a safe and supportive environment. And for a nominal fee, Models of Pride also offers a PROFESSIONAL TRACK for service providers and educators looking to enrich their skills to support our community.
