Afternoon Tea with Asian Parents (ATAP)
The Afternoon Tea with Asian Parents (ATAP) is arranged, culture-specific smaller, intimate gathering of parents of LGBT, their families, and their children, mediated by one (or more) of our PFLAG- SGV API Executive Board or Leadership Team members who match the culture of the requesting family.
If language assistance is needed, we provide translators. We believe that for some of our first generation API families and/or newcomers to America, the availability to dialogue and ask questions using their own dialect is important for understanding and for building trust.
Attendees bring refreshments they wish to share with one another, such as tea and snack items.
When requested, facilitators may provide printed copies of resources as we have available. Hard copy informational materials are a need for those who may not have technology access.
Past Afternoon Tea with Asian Parents have been very beneficial, as reported by attendees.
ATAP events held have been coordinated and facilitated by our Executive Board or Leadership team.
