"Thanksgiving with Our Rainbow Family": Nov. 25, 2012
Our November 25, 2012 SGV API PFLAG support group meeting also served as a "Thanksgiving with Our Rainbow Family" mixer. The event was held at our *regular venue in Monterey Park, CA. We enjoyed plenty of delicious entrees and desserts from our many cultures represented at this meeting; we shared stories and announcements from the past month, as well as updates from other activist organizations that many of us volunteer at. With the November launch of our website, we are hopeful that our visibility and outreach will increase.
Thank you to our Advisory/Leadership Team and our regular attendees who keep our ship afloat with much teamwork, dedication, many creative ideas, and continuing to reach out and bring in new participants! We fondly welcome new faces to our SGV API PFLAG extended family! A thousand welcomes and hugs from all of us! It is an honor to have your trust and your courage commendable. *Much appreciation for Mr. Andre Ting's generosity and continued support for providing a facility for free for the SGV API PFLAG meetings from April 2012 - March 2013. |

Korean Afternoon Tea with Asian Parents (ATAP): Nov. 10, 2012

John and Minsook Brady
Organized by: John & Minsook Brady, Andre Ting, Koreans United for Equality (KUE)
The second Afternoon Tea with Asian Parents (ATAP) for Korean-American parents, families, and their LGBT children was held on November 10th, 2012 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Asian Pacific Aids Intervention Team (APAIT). There were 15 attendees: 6 parents, 1 extended family member, and 8 LGBT. Three of our Advisory/Leadership Team hosted and facilitated: John and Minsook Brady (Korean-American parents) and Andre Ting (Chinese-American descent). Participants came from as far away as New York City, NY and San Diego, CA.
"We all sat in a circle. One by one, we talked about our struggle of coming out to our family and friends." - Minsook Brady
Initially hesitant to come to this type of gathering with strangers though they are all of similar cultural background and language, our participants warm to one another quickly and derive comfort, reassurance, and trust to share their own experiences and feelings.
We thank APAIT Health Center for providing us the venue to meet for this ATAP. Thank you again to John, Minsook, and Andre. Your dedication and outreach is so very much appreciated and needed.
